Club serves 150 seniors a Thanksgiving Dinner
The Rotary Club of Chicago Near South celebrated 10 years of serving Thanksgiving Dinner to seniors from the Bronzeville Community

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, Our club celebrated a decade of providing a plated Thanksgiving dinner to 64 seniors from senior housing in the Bronzeville Community. Volunteers delivered another 85 dinners to seniors who could not leave their facilities. This joyous event is made possible by a partnership of the Rotary Club of Chicago Near South, whose members serve the meals and provide raffle prizes and the table floral decorations, Illinois Institute of Technology, whose caterer donates the food and the location, and St. James Catholic Church, who recruits the guests and provides bus transportation. The event is named in memory of Virginia "Ginny" Picken, a long time Rotary club member and member of St. James, who marshaled the organizations and the University to re-institute the tradition.
