The Rotary Club of Chicago Near South Celebrated its 20th Anniversary on Friday, July 21, 2023 with a gala dinner held at Illinois Institute of Technology. Leadership of Rotary International District 6450 and members of the other clubs joined us to celebrate the achievement and honor Past District Governor Irv Kaplan, one of the original sponsors who organized the club in 2003.
Irv Kaplan was honored for his tireless work as a Rotarian and leader of our District. He has been instrumental in the renovation and furnishing of the Paul Harris Home, restored in memory of Rotary's founder, and in conducting the annual White Sox game, attended by members of the District, to raise funds for polio eradication.
Fifty people attended, the event, including three past district governors, members of neighboring clubs, and all members of Chicago Near South and their families. Rachel Ossyra, District Governor-Elect presided and conducted installation of a new member and the 2023-2024 Officers of the club.
The event was held in the ballroom of the McCormick Tribune Campus Center at Illinois Institute of Technology, where the club was founded in 2003. David Baker, Club President for 23-24 and Bonnie Sanchez-Carlson, District Governor Nominee for 25-26 were the two charter members of the club present.
