2023 Ginny Picken Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors

On November 19, 2023, the Rotary Club of Chicago Near South, joined by St. James Catholic Church and Illinois Institute of Technology, hosted nearly 100 seniors from senior housing facilities in Bronzeville for a complete Thanksgiving Dinner. Another 80 meals were delivered by volunteers  to individuals who could not make it to the university.

This annual event is named for  former Rotary Near South Member,  Ginny Picken, who saw an opportunity to combine the power of Rotary volunteers with the connections of St. James and the generosity of Illinois Institute of Technology.

The dinner has been conducted the Sunday before Thanksgiving for over a decade.  It is seen by the sponsors as a great way to celebrate our senior citizens and give them an opportunity to get out and about, thereby contributing to their health and well-being.

The guests were entertained by Nanette Frank, a well-known jazz singer and her ensemble.  The dinner concluded with a free raffle and door prizes for all.
